Vacuum Chamber Technology
Pilla Performance Eyewear uses state of the art techniques to manufacture our lenses with optical clarity and application of our coatings is achieved through vacuum chambers.
Following the casting of our lenses, which cures for over a day, the lenses are transferred to an area of our manufacturing facility where we apply our high performance coatings. Our coatings are applied in a completely dust free environment in a Vacuum Chamber. We place our lenses on a dish that looks like a satellite dish to evenly distribute the lenses and provide proper airflow for our highly technical application. In the Vacuum Chamber the coating is misted from the ceiling and sucked with high volume airflow through the bottom of the chamber. This provides perfectly even application of all our coatings. There is no build up of excess coating anywhere on the lens. This provides even coating of our HDX Dielectric Flashing as well as our HDX Anti-Reflective and HDX Hydrolio coatings. These coatings will never wear off the lens and the process produces state-of-the-art results with no adverse effect on the optics of the lens.
This process provides precise application for maximum performance.
HD vs. HDX
Pilla Performance Eyewear has developed two lens technologies based on our proprietary high definition imaging technology called ColorTrast. This rich color enhancement and high contrast lens technology produces significant improvement in vision for sport with very specific lens filtration curves for individual sports. Both HD & HDX technologies produce the finest clarity available while having the best impact resistance on the market. There is no compromise in either lens family offering.
HDX Ballistx Lens technologies are brand new for Pilla Performance Eyewear and are exclusively used throughout the entire line with the exception of our new Pilla Sport collection.
Our Pilla HDX Ballistx lens technology is the next evolution in high performance lens design. We have created an enhanced high definition visual experience with superior resolution by adding a proprietary multi-layer anti-reflective coating which removes all visual glare and noise while improving the eye’s ability to register color. With Pilla HDX lenses our trademark high definition experience has reached a new level of achievement.
With the introduction of Pilla Sport, an enthusiast performance shooting collection, our HD Ballistx lens technology is used. This collection of performance eyewear uses HD lenses which offer vibrant high definition color enhancement without the introduction of coatings. These lenses are a great solution for the enthusiast looking for maximum clarity and impact resistance without the necessity for enhanced professional performance.
ColorTrast Technology
By infusing ColorTrast directly into our Ballistx Diamond VisionTM lens material, we achieve crystal clear optics with significant performance advantages for Sport. Whether you are shooting clays, riding, fishing, or playing golf, the performance of our technology is superior. It is important to note that Pilla lenses are not tinted. Instead, our lenses are infused with high definition technology.

Simulated Curve. Pilla enhances and manipulates color specifically for individual sports for optimal performance.
“My shooting success started long before there was a requirement to wear glasses. When they were made compulsory they became a distraction - and an extremely annoying part of the game. I have to say, without hesitation, that the Panther is a piece of equipment I wouldn’t now be without. The new shields provide unreal target colour enhancement and definition- these are truly an unfair advantage as they clearly provide unmatched performance.”

We do not tint our lenses.
Tinting is an ancient process which involves adding a “color” to the lens surface. The process of tinting also is applied through dip coating. This process creates a lens that will fade over time and reduces the performance of the lens. Tinting is also counter productive to achieving optimal vision. A tinted lens washes your vision with one color reducing the eye’s ability to accurately define depth of field. In sport, this is a clear disadvantage.
Our Ballistx Lenses benefit from “In-Mass” high definition technology. Which means that the technology in our lenses is found inside the lens material: a process of imbedding the technology in manufacturing.
Dip Tinting
Dip tinting is a cheap process that creates distortion across the lens. This ancient technique of applying either color or layers to lenses is a process that deteriorates and fades over time.
Dip tinting is used in the lens industry to reduce cost and applied by those who do not have access to state of the art manufacturing. The process is no different then dying Easter eggs and produces lenses that are not precise nor capable of providing optical precision. This process produces a rippling effect on the surfaces of the lens. This rippling is a pooling of the color coating that does not drain off the lens surface uniformly. This creates a striation across the lens surface. This affects the optics of the lens making what you see fuzzy.
